Bird Watching
The North-east has a great range of venues for bird watching, from wetlands to alpine meadows, to open woodlands, tall timber and lakes.
See (for example) the sections on National Parks, walks within townships, bushwalking and paddling venues, and the scenic drive descriptions.
Visitor Information centres throughout the North-east have bird listings (including recommended venues), and these make a useful start to some productive 'twitching'.
See also AviBase (link below), the world-wide database of bird sightings.
