YARRAWONGA - BUNDALONG
The (as yet incomplete) dedicated bike route from Yarrawonga to Bundalong runs alongside the busy Murray Valley Highway, and is proving to be a popular route with locals, and visitors alike.
The route starts near the corner of Belmore Street (the main commercial thoroughfare of Yarrawonga) and the Murray Valley Highway, and heads east towards the small community of Bundalong (poulation 280). Unfortunately, it finishes about six kilometres shy of Bundalong, but given that it basically follows the northern margins of Lake Mulwala, this is still an enjoyable ride, with many nice views of the Lake to the left on the outward journey.
As to be expected, there are only gentle gradients along the way, and this is an easy route for all riders.
At a gentle pace, allow about two hours for the ride (there and back), and don't forget to take some water as there is not much shade out there.
There is also a similar bike path heading west from Yarrawonga, it’s not as clearly defined as the path leading to Bundalong, but is equally as enjoyable. The route can be picked up to the west of the Benalla Road (which leads south off the Murray Valley Highway, and itself is west of Belmore Street). From here the pathway leads towards Brears Road, a total of about three kilometres from Belmore Road.
