LAKE BUFFALO
(www.northeastvictoria.online)
Lake Buffalo is an irrigation storage on the Buffalo River and is used extensively for recreation. The Lake is overlooked by the southern walls of Mount Buffalo, providing a not often seen aspect of the massif.
The Lake is accessed via the Buffalo River Road (C526) out of Myrtleford, the Lake being about 21km from Myrtleford. Useful map, Rooftop’s Bright - Mansfield Adventure Map.
There is a boat ramp on the north-east corner of the Lake which provides easy launching, and the Lake is a pleasant venue for casual paddling.
Paddlers can disembark at many points around the Lake to explore the shoreline, however camping is not permitted on the lakeshores.
There are bush camping areas nearby, notably at Nug Nug Reserve, which is on the main access road from Myrtleford (lots of room, and a great setting) as well as along the middle reaches of the Buffalo River (that is, upstream of the Lake).
