LAKE MOODEMERE

Lake Moodemere is part of a cut-off meander of the Murray River, and is a popular area for bird watching and for water sports. The easiest access to the Lake is via Moodemere Road off the Murray Valley Highway six kilometres west of Rutherglen. The Lake is very scenic, with a tree lined shore and extensive reed beds. It is home to a wide variety of water birds, including ibis, grebes, musk ducks, herons and egrets. As well as being a popular canoeing and rowing venue, Moodemere is also used for water skiing, consequently it can get congested at peak holiday times.

There are day visitor amenities at the Lake, but camping is not permitted. However there are many informal campsites along the banks of the Murray River, which is only a short distance away.

Alternatively there are commercial camping areas in Corowa, and the excellent Rutherglen Caravan Park, which also provides access to Lake King, a small lake that is great fun on a hot day.
