MOUNT BEAUTY PONDAGE

Mount Beauty Pondage is adjacent to the township of Mount Beauty and is a good lake canoeing venue with easy access. The Pondage is used to regulate outfall from the Kiewa Hydro-electric Scheme into the Kiewa River. The water level fluctuates by about 1.5m over several days of Hydro operations. loading...

Access to the Pondage is via a small picnic-barbeque area (Bicentennial Park) off Lakeside Drive, Mount Beauty. The Pondage is a very pretty venue and a great place to be on a hot day.

The township has good facilities, and a camping area, on the banks of the Kiewa.

Note that the water immediately upstream of the regulating gates is a ‘No Entry’ area. The spillway into the Pondage (the Tail Race Channel) is between the regulating gates and the township. Do not paddle up the spillway as it contains a dangerous weir.
