Pine Gully [AWTGS-3]

Pine Gully Picnic Area is on the western side of the Warby Ranges, and is accessible by taking Wanganadery Road out of Wangaratta, or Wangaratta Road from west of the Ranges. loading...

This is one of the larger picnic areas in the Park, with plenty of tables of chairs, and plenty of room to avoid the neighbours.

Pine Gully Nature Walk, starting near the picnic area, is reasonably strenuous and takes about 90 minutes to complete, providing a good introduction to the ’look and feel’ of the Warby Ranges.

Note that this walk requires a pair of formal walking shoes/boots, as well as a set of trekking poles. Take care at all times, as the terrain is quite rocky, and slippery in many places.

The track initially leads downslope for about 400m, then there is a sign-posted left turn (which involves crossing the creek). On the way to this turn-off, and throughout the Nature Trail, there are many interesting storyboards, covering a variety of topics relating to the area.

After making a long sweep through some excellent rocky terrain, the track arrives back at the creek, with the Observation Deck being clearly visible.

Cross over the creek, and then turn left for the short stroll to the deck.

Return to the car park by returning upstream, and staying on this side of the creek.

Overall distance is about three kilometres, and the time taken is about 90 minutes.
