INDIGO EPIC MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAIL
This new trail (opened in 2023) links the former gold mining towns of Beechworth and Yackandandah via a very interesting 56km weaving pathway, a map of the actual route is accessible via the link below.
There are several one-way sections on the trail, and these are clearly indicated on the excellent signage encoutered along the way.
From Beechworth, the initial route heads towards Lake Kerferd, and from here cuts across country (mostly single file, with some board-walk waterway crossings) towards the Homeward Bound heritage site (1861), and then onwards to Yackandah at the trail-head.
The return journey heads south, and then west to visit the Wallaby Mine heritage site (1908; see photo), and from there, via another one-way track, to the Hurdle Creek heritage site (1908).
The track now meets up with the first section of the outgoing route for the home run back to Beechworth.
[Wallaby Mine has some interesting relics from the gold mining era and, like the Homeward Bound and Hurdle Creek sites, it is interesting to spend some time here.]
