DOOKIE RAIL TRAIL

This Rail Trail runs from the centre of the small township of Dookie, and travels through pleasing farmland, and rolling hill country, but with only minor gradients.

Dookie is an intersting township, and is about 36km from Benalla via the Midland Highway, and then the Tocumwal turn-off, and then left at Dookie Road. loading...

Once in Dookie, the adventure starts opposite the Gladstone Hotel, Mary Street, and covers about 9.4km overall (that is, the Trail is about 4.8km each way). There are plans to extend this by a further six kilometres (three kilometres each way).

The Trail surface varies from smooth bitumen, to gravelly bitumen, to gravel itself, and so is not really suited to road bikes; hybrids and mountain bikes are the best choice.

There is is a fair amount of shade along the Trail, but sun-screen protection is always required on warmer days.

There are plenty of opportunities to stop for a drink/snack on the way, as there are several seats/tables alongside the Trail.

After the bike ride, the town has a nice cafe (with an adjoining emporium) for morning tea/lunch, and the Gladstone Hotel serves a nice meal in a well maintained historic building (nice beer garden as well.

Check with the Dookie website (see link below) for opening, and meal serving, times.
