JAMIESON
(www.northeastvictoria.online)
Jamieson developed during the 1850s gold rush, in particular with the discovery of gold at Cashens Flat, south of the present day township.
Settlement was also instigated by the need for supplies to other gold mining townships, such as Kevington, Gaffneys Creek, and Woods Point, and so the township quickly grew into a supply base, with a population of about three thousand.
Breweries, brothels, hotels, banks, churches, and a courthouse soon lined the newly aligned streets, many of these buildings still being in use today.
The former Court House (in Nash Street) is the home of the Jamieson Historical Society and has an interesting collection of memorabilia, including books, maps and photographs.
The modern day town is a popular hoilday destination, with some great eateries, a range of accommodation options, and is well known for its autumn colours.
As well as enjoying the amenity of the town itself, there are plenty of great things to do, such as . . .
enjoy the ambience
enjoy the riverside walk to the confluence of the Jamieson and Goulburn River
enjoy the Heritage Walk (brochures available at several shops in town)
